With concern for those with the greatest vulnerability, the Housing Development Corporation aims to fulfill this mission. We affirm the importance of affordable homes for all and continually pursue new housing opportunities to help meet this basic human need.
We serve a variety of people in a range of locations, but all of our housing programs have common characteristics: residents are treated with dignity and offered services appropriate for their individual needs. Our housing is also always affordable, secure, and well-maintained.
Our housing programs offer more than four walls and a roof—we provide homes with an atmosphere of love and compassion while offering support to contribute to a better life for us all.
The Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corporation is dedicated to the development and management of affordable permanent and transitional homes for the elderly, the formerly homeless, and those with mental illnesses or disabilities. As a sponsored work of the Sisters of Charity of New York, we are a community-based, not-for-profit organization.
For nearly 200 years, the Sisters of Charity of New York have worked to respond to the needs of the poor. The Congregation was founded by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and was the first American order of women religious.
The Housing Development Corporation was founded as a subsidiary of the Sisters of Charity in 1986 to meet the needs of low-income elderly persons.
